History of Panama City

"What shall I do today?" is the question all natives or visitors to the Panama City area face each morning. The vivid emerald waters capture our imaginations and lure us with the promise of another world. Dolphins play near the shrimp boats and white sands demand that we all at least consider a nap in the sun.

Panama City - Bay County, Florida has 27 miles of beaches and boasts a moderate climate attributed to the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and cool sea breezes. Snorkeling, diving, fishing and boating are just a few of the activities available along the coasts of Bay County. The many attractions and world class golf courses provide endless hours of family fun and the array of fine restaurants ensure an excellent meal no matter what your taste or budget.

The tourist season kicks off with Spring Break in March and lasts through October. Cold spells are brief during the winter months offering Panama City's 'Snow Bird' population a respite from the frigid northern winters.

The warm waters created by the Gulf Stream come ashore in Panama City and are home to an abundance of exotic sea life. Six historic wrecks are offshore including the 465-ft. Empire Mica. The wrecks, combined with several offshore reef sites, provide divers and snorkelers with a wondrous adventure. For information about the incredible diving opportunities here, contact one of our member Dive Shops.

Did we mention the fishing? Whether you are in pursuit of the 'big one' or just dinner, it can be found in our warm Gulf waters. Fish from the piers or charter a boat to take you deep sea fishing. The Panama City area has many fine marinas which house large and small vessels. And speaking of fish, Panama City's many excellent seafood restaurants boast that the "seafood you're eating today was asleep in the Gulf last night."
